When you reuse the same model many times, use the Favorite function. It lets you bookmark the models you place most often so they’re one click away instead of buried in the library tree.
What this function includes:
- Mark a model as a favorite by clicking the star on its thumbnail.
- All starred models are gathered together in the Favorite tab.
- Pull them straight from the Favorite tab while you design, without re-searching the categories.
- Click the star again to un-favorite a model and remove it from the tab.

Favorite tab dynamic in sketchup
The Favorite tab is just a fast shortcut to the same library entry — it does not duplicate the model, so a starred item behaves exactly like one placed from its category.
Placing the same favorite repeatedly is far lighter than copy-pasting an existing one: every drop from the panel adds a new component instance that shares one definition, so ten copies of a chair cost roughly the geometry of one, while pasted copies that lose their component link can bloat the file.
A hidden side effect to watch for: erasing favorites you placed earlier does NOT shrink the file — SketchUp keeps the component definition in the model in case you reuse it. After a heavy favoriting/placing session, run Model Info → Statistics → Purge Unused (or the Purge Unused extension) to actually drop the orphaned definitions, materials and tags those models left behind.
