How SketchUp replace panel works under the hood:
The replace panel table is built on SketchUp’s native component-swap behavior, so the panel you click does not get re-modeled — it reuses the slot you already placed. This matters because of one behavior most people miss: the swap keeps the existing instance’s transformation, so a non-uniformly scaled door frame will stretch the new panel by the exact same factor instead of arriving at its true size. If a replaced panel suddenly looks squashed or too wide, the original opening was scaled, not the panel itself — reset that instance’s scale (or rebuild the door from the finished door first) before swapping, and every panel after will drop in clean.
Tips for cleaner results:
- Replacement inherits the origin/axis of the panel slot, not of the new panel — so all panels in the table are built around the same insertion point and stay flush. If you author your own custom panel to add to the table, match that origin or it will sit offset after the swap.
- Select all matching cabinet doors at once before opening the replace panel table; one click then re-skins the whole run of cabinets in a single step instead of door by door.
- Because handles and knobs swap the same way, you can mix any panel style with any hardware — the two libraries are independent, so a modern shaker panel and a classic knob is one valid combination, not a fixed set.
